God's people found strength and power by RETREATING into the woods and hills and deserts to get back in communion with their creator. David to the hills, Moses in the desert, the children of Israel purged themselves of Egypt's corruption depending solely on God out of the wilderness.
Saul of Tarsus, experienced a dramatic turnaround on the road to Damascus . . . God immediately sent him 'off to camp' into the Arabian Wilderness for 3 years to grow up his faith and grow into God's mission for his life.
