Our sovereign Lord and savior Jesus Christ gave everything for us. He is the King of Kings and Lord of Lords yet He surrendered to God’s will, sacrificed it all and gave His life for us. He endured agony, pain and rejection on the cross, a brutal form of punishment and torture.
But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners.
He loved me while I was far away from Him, as far away as I could possibly be. When I had rejected Him and turned away from Him. Yet, He still loved me and did all this for me. He still died for me. He took my place. I deserved the punishment, He didn’t. If this doesn’t scream LOVE then I don’t know of anything else that does.
He gave his life to free us from every kind of sin, to cleanse us, and to make us his very own people, totally committed to doing good deeds.
In His sovereign power He could have called angels to remove Him from what He was experiencing, to take Him off that cross.
Don’t you realize that I could ask my Father for thousands of angels to protect us, and he would send them instantly?
But yet He endured for you and me.
In my errant and fallible way of thinking, incognizant to the truth, I sometimes live my life as if God is against me. That He is just waiting for me to mess up. That I will never measure up and He is waiting for me to fail.
But when I take a glimpse at the cross I realize that God in His strength and power could have destroyed me long ago. If He wanted me to fail He would have allowed me to do so. But yet He chose me to be His daughter. He chose me to be righteous and holy through His son Jesus Christ. To be a joint heir of His glory.
And since we are his children, we are his heirs. In fact, together with Christ we are heirs of God’s glory.
So if the King of Glory, the King of all Kings, is for me then who can be against me?
